Hi KL Expats!
You have probably all received on your Malaysian phone numbers a few texts since March 21st, all of which have been in Malay, starting off with RM0, RM0 KPDNHEP, RM0 PKP or RM0 followed by a short paragraph. These are not sinister! They are being sent by governmental bodies and are related to the current COVID-19 situation.
I thought we’d cover some of them here if you don’t understand them and haven’t found a way to translate them.
TEXT 1
RM0 PERINGATAN Jika ada keperluan untuk membeli barangan keperluan/ubat-ubatan, hanya seorang wakil atau ketua keluarga sahaja dibenarkan keluar dari rumah
Translation: If you need to shop for essential items/medicine, only one representative or head of the family is permitted to leave the house.
This was followed by several texts warning that strict action would be taken by the PDRM (Police Diraja Malaysia) and MCMC (Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission) against those spreading ‘berita palsu’ (fake news).
There were also a few texts regarding:
an injection of cash into the health department
the extension of the MCO until 14th April
deferment of loan repayments by 6 months for ALL customers (not just Malaysians) who have mortgages, personal loans, HP financing, amongst others.
The last few I have listed below, as they regard conditions imposed during the MCO. PKP Tahap 2 means Perintah Kawalan Pergerakan (MCO) Level 2 (referring to the extension 1st Apr – 14th Apr).
TEXT 2
RM0 PKP Tahap 2 - Waktu operasi pengangkutan awam dari 6.00 pagi hingga 10.00 pagi dan dari 5.00 petang hingga 10 malam sahaja.
Translation: Operation hours for public transport will be from 6am to 10am and then from 5pm to 10pm.
TEXT 3
RM0 PKP Tahap 2 - Kenderaan persendirian hanya dibenarkan antara jam 6.00 pagi sehingga 10.00 malam, termasuk perkhidmatan E-Hailing dan Teksi.
Translation: Private vehicles will be permitted on the roads only from 6am to 10pm, including e-hailing and taxi services.
TEXT 4
RM0 PKP Tahap 2-Restoran dan Kedai Makan dibenarkan beroperasi dari 8.00 pagi hingga 8.00 malam.
Translation: Restaurants and eateries are permitted to operate from 8am to 8pm.
TEXT5
RM0 PKP Tahap 2 - Perkhidmatan Penghantaran Makanan (Delivery) dibenarkan beroperasi dari jam 8.00 pagi hingga 8.00 malam.
Translation: Food deliveries are permitted to operate from 8am to 8pm.
